The State of the Union, the Democratic response and Tomi Lahren’s idiotic comments

On Tuesday evening, President Donald Trump gave his first State of the Union speech. While not being the biggest Trump fan in the world, I by and large enjoyed the nearly hour and half speech.

The President touched on all the major policy areas one would have expected. He talked about the economy, unemployment, taxes, wages, national security, highlighted some of the natural disasters the country faed with last year and how we’re stronger as a nation because of it. He touched on the hot button issue of the day, immigration. There were no real surprises. Unlike his campaign speeches, he stayed on point, and didn’t go off in tangent after tangent. Also, unlike his campaign speeches, he read it off the teleprompter.

But as with anyone with more than two braincells knows, the State of the Union is political theater of the highest accord. I mean, the party of the president giving the speech stands up and applauds 2,000 times throughout the speech.

Then as part of the political theater, the opposing party trots out, who they feel is a rising star in their party, to deliver a response to the State of the Union. This time, the individual the Dems chose was Rep. Joseph Kennedy. Yes, of that Kennedy family.

Kennedy’s speech was really everything you thought it would be – Democratic talking points, meant to draw a sharp contrast between the Republicans and Democrats. Not a terrible speech, but definitely meant for the Democratic base.

However, conservative commentator Tomi Lahren felt the need to make her feelings about Kennedy’s speech known. Did she deliver an articulate, well-thought out response, detailing why Kennedy’s ideas will take our nation in the wrong direction? If you said yes, then you must have no idea of Tomi Lahren’s work.

No, instead she responded by posting a video of herself where she calls Kennedy “a little limp d**k.”

Classy stuff, no doubt.

The Fox News contributor has since apologized for her vulgar and frankly, stupid remarks.

But the questions have to be asked, what could have she been thinking? What could she have been gained for posting this? And why is she always so anger? I mean, her guy is in the White House.

Perhaps this gives her more material for her Final Thoughts segments: Tomi gives us her opinion on the liberal outrage about her conservative outrage about the Democratic response to President Trump’s State of the Union speech.

Keep it classy, Tomi and that’s my final thought.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Anti-Trump Tirade Continues

Last night following the State of the Union address, Jimmy Kimmel brought Stormy Daniels onto his late night talk show. The porn star allegedly had an affair with President Trump back in 2006 while Melania was pregnant and was paid a large sum of hush money.

For the past year, Kimmel has taken it upon himself to be the late night voice of the resistance, lecturing the President from Hollywood on everything from immigration, affordable health care and gun control. Obviously it’s his show and he can do what he wants, but it’s getting a bit tiring, especially since people seek out entertainment as an escape from the 24/7 politics in the news and on social media.

The show opened with a video of Kimmel and Daniels watching the State of the Union. Kimmel brings out a Trump puppet and askes her to “show me on the puppet what Trump did to you.”

In the actual interview, he presses her to reveal details about the affair, which she neither confirms nor denies. The puppets also return for a game of “Never Have I Ever.”

Can we just talk about how inappropriate this is for a minute? Even if the affair is true, this is not late night fodder for a talk show. It’s a serious situation that may happened twelve years ago and while damaging to the President, not exactly relevant to what’s going on in the White House now. If this was currently happening, that would be a different story but still not joking material.

(And yes, President Trump most definitely has some character and moral issues and brushing those aside simply because there’s an “R” next to his name is definitely problematic for the GOP. Republicans claim to be the party of morality and should do better when picking their leaders. But I digress.)

This is Kimmel exploiting the situation because he hates the President. Do you think he would have had Monica Lewinsky on during the Clinton era to play with dolls and talk about where the president touched her? Highly unlikely.

In the future, Jimmy Kimmel should give us a break from the politics and actually create comedy that’s funny, instead of preaching his own ideology. As long as Donald Trump is President, that’s unlikely to happen, though.

What to Expect at Tonight’s SOTU Address

The economy is good. Stock markets are soaring and unemployment is at a historically low rate. Tonight, expect President Trump to address all those things in his first State of the Union address to Congress and the nation.

Here are some other things to watch for this evening:

1. 2018 Agenda
Now that the tax bill has passed, expect Trump to focus more on immigration, building the wall and DACA. According to a White House plan revealed last week, Trump is calling for a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and proposed $25 billion for border security as well as tougher legal immigration laws.

Healthcare is likely to come up as well. 2017 was a failed attempt at a full Obamacare repeal/replace although the individual mandate is gone, thanks to the tax bill.

2. Russia: The Elephant in the Room
Yes, we’re STILL talking about Russian interference in last year’s election. Will Trump address it or ignore it completely?

3. Planned Parenthood/Protection of Unborn Life
Two weeks ago, Trump made history by being the first president to speak in person at the March for Life. Many of his remarks were very pro-life and he urged the Senate to pass the Pain-Capable bill. That bill failed to pass yesterday but expect another try, especially if Republicans pick seats up in the mid-term elections.

Trump and Republicans elected also promised to defund Planned Parenthood and we’re still waiting.

4. Melania’s Guests
Mrs. Trump will welcome fifteen guests to sit with her during the address. Those chosen have benefited from Trump’s tax plan, are members of the military, along with the leader of the “Cajun Navy” and people on the front lines of the battle against opioid addiction. The Trump children (minus Barron) will also be present.

Celebrities Holding “People’s State of the Union” in Protest of Trump

On Tuesday, January 30th, President Trump will give his first State of the Union address. Hollywood Celebrities aren’t pleased the President’s performance this past year and in protest are holding their own “People’s State of the Union” the night before.

The counter protest is headed up by Mark Ruffalo (who’s quickly becoming one of the most annoying anti-Trump celebrities on the planet), Michael Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, and Rosie Perez.

Ruffalo told People Magazine that the People’s State of the Union is “a better reflection of our state of the union based on a more populist point of view, based on the people’s point of view,” and that “it’s important because we have a president who has a difficult time with the truth, who has a radical, divisive agenda, and spends an enormous amount of time focusing on the negative and hopelessness and despair.”

Also behind the event are the organizations We Stand United, MoveOn.org Political Action and Stand Up America.

This is just another example of Hollywood elitists pretending they know everything about politics and what direction our country should be heading in. They haven’t bothered to look at the electoral map to see that without the coastal areas, the majority of America is overwhelmingly pretty conservative.

But we conservatives don’t matter because we’re all a bunch of xenophobic, homophobic, racist, bitter gun clingers.

The event will be live-streamed, so if you’re in the mood to watch liberals celebrate how “woke” they are, just head on over to Ruffalo’s Twitter for all the details.
