Parkland School System Failed Nikolas Cruz

On Friday, The Sun Sentinel reported the findings of a special report conducted by the Broward public school system on the Parkland High School shooter, Nikolas Cruz. The report, which was redacted but due to an error in the publication, could be read entirely by copy and pasting into a different document, found that Cruz had asked for help from the school system but they did not follow through on his request.

From The New York Times:

The report revealed that two months after Mr. Cruz was forced to leave Stoneman Douglas, he tried to take the school’s earlier advice and enroll in Cross Creek. His mother said “he had come to realize that the only way he would achieve his goal of graduating from high school” was to do so, the report says.

The district was required to respond to Mr. Cruz’s request for special-needs services, known as exceptional student education, within 30 days, the report found. Instead, the district told Mr. Cruz that it would need to evaluate his eligibility for assistance — despite his 15-year record in the school system — and that the process could take six weeks.

The process never began: For a new special-needs evaluation to take place, Mr. Cruz first had to re-enroll in Stoneman Douglas. An administrator said it was too late in the school year to take him back.

Because of failing grades, Cruz withdrew from school. Three days later, he purchased the AR-15 he used one year later in the Parkland shooting.

It’s obvious to see from the report, that Cruz had a long history of alarming behavior, so it’s a hard to say if receiving additional support from the high school would have changed the outcome of the Parkland shooting.

What it does point out, is that the school system failed to properly do their job.

Those instances, from the Sun Sentinel:

— School officials misstated Cruz’s options when he was faced with being removed from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School his junior year, leading him to refuse special education services.

— When Cruz asked to return to the therapeutic environment of Cross Creek School for special education students, the district “did not follow through,” the report reveals.

In part because of the errors, Cruz had no school counseling or other special education services in the 14 months leading up to the shooting on Feb. 14, the report says.

Maybe with all the evidence coming to light that not only did the Broward County Sheriff’s department botch their on the scene response procedures but the school system also failed Cruz, people will stop blaming legal gun owners and the NRA for something they had nothing to do with?

Sheriff Israel Thinks No Confidence Vote Was about Pay Raises

The Broward County deputies have voted and the results are in: 534 union members voted no confidence, while 94 said they had confidence in the sheriff. According to the Union President Jeff Bell, this was the first time they’ve ever held a vote like this.

Sheriff Israel told news outlets at a press conference that “I am accountable to the citizens of Broward County. My job is to continue to do the job I was elected to do, which is to ensure the safety of Broward County’s 1.9 million residents.”

He also said that he thinks the deputies who voted no are mad about not getting a pay raise.

From ABC:

“I will not be distracted from my duties by this inconsequential IUPA union vote, which was designed to extort a 6.5 percent pay raise from this agency. Those who purportedly voted in this straw ballot reflect only a small number of the 5,400 BSO employees. The unions representing the vast majority of our employees solidly support the leadership of this agency.”

Sheriff Israel is delusional and it’s way past time for him to be fired.

Hilariously, when the union president called to tell him the news, he didn’t even pick up the phone. Instead he let it go to voicemail.

Must be too busy being an amazing leader and protecting cowardly cops who won’t go in a school to engage an active shooter.

Sheriff Scott Israel Facing No Confidence Vote by His Deputies

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, who described himself as having amazing leadership, is facing a vote of no confidence from his own deputies.

From The Daily Caller:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputies Association has scheduled a no-confidence vote for Sheriff Scott Israel over his behavior during the lead-up to and aftermath of the Parkland school shooting, union president Deputy Jeff Bell announced Friday.

The union is accusing Israel of “many instances of suspected malfeasance, misfeasance, failure to maintain fiduciary responsibility by the sheriff, failure to properly investigate possible criminal conduct by members of his senior command staff and the lack of leadership that has crushed morale throughout the agency.”

Bell told CNN that “the historic move is due to the dysfunction of the office, which has been piling up for years. But it was Israel’s behavior after the school shooting that left 17 people dead that pushed the rank and file over the edge.”

There have been many calls for Israel to resign and some lawmakers have asked the governor to suspend him. Neither have happened.

Also from CNN:

The no-confidence voting period will close April 26, to allow all the voting members to cast their ballot during their shift. All deputies and sergeants in the union will have the power to vote.
While the outcome of the no-confidence vote is mostly symbolic, it will give the sheriff a sense of what his rank-and-file deputies think of his command.
“Some of his best supporters are being vocal against him,” said Bell. “The morale just disappeared. The morale is gone.”
Maybe now the sheriff will realize his incompetency and step down.

David and Lauren Hogg are Writing a Book

You had to see this one coming. David Hogg and his sister Lauren are writing a book. Entitled #NeverAgain, it will feature  a forward written by Parkland student and activist Emma Gonzalez.

David’s sister Lauren says the book “tells the story of how we turned our grief into action and how we fight and speak out for those who no longer can.”

From the synopsis on Amazon:

This book is a manifesto for the movement begun that day, one that has already changed America–with voices of a new generation that are speaking truth to power, and are determined to succeed where their elders have failed. With moral force and clarity, a new generation has made it clear that problems previously deemed unsolvable due to powerful lobbies and political cowardice will be theirs to solve. Born just after Columbine and raised amid seemingly endless war and routine active shooter drills, this generation now says, Enough. This book is their statement of purpose, and the story of their lives. It is the essential guide to the #NeverAgain movement.

The book will be released on June 5th and according to the Hoggs’, all proceeds will benefit healing in the Parkland community as well as fighting gun violence, but name no specific organizations to which they are donating.

Finally! CNN let’s us know David Hogg’s plans after high school

CNN loves them some David Hogg.

You know, who I’m talk about, right? He’s the Parkland School shooting survivor who is on their network more than Brian Stelter. But honestly, he’s probably more reliable than the ‘Reliable Sources’ host, so maybe that’s part of the reason.

Anyway, Mr. Hogg is the lad whose been the most out front and in your face about guns, gun laws, the NRA, saying lawmakers have literal blood on their hands, organizing protests and other pleasantries.

Hogg also believes his parents “don’t know how to use a “f**king” democracy.”

So, you know he’s seems like a perfectly pleasant, reasonable young man.

CNN, “the most trusted name in news,” is without a doubt the primary, if not the sole reason, Hogg has gained so much fame and notoriety.

CNN’s Alliysn Camerota was absolutely incredulous when she learned that any college could turn away their media darling, exclaiming “what kind of dumbass colleges don’t want you?”

Well, now thanks to CNN we now know Hogg won’t be attending any “dumbass” colleges, at least for the next year.  What will the left’s intolerable poster child being doing for the next year?  Well, don’t you worry, he, just like to resident sane person and “comedian” Chelsea Handler, will be making our democracy even better.

How selfless of the lad!

Listen, this isn’t so much about Hogg as it is CNN. Hogg doesn’t realize he’s being used by those pushing gun control and the media. He’s lapping up all the fame and honestly, what 17-year-old kid wouldn’t like being told how great they are and how brave they are for holding opinions that the media elite hold.

Feeling it necessary to tell us what Hogg plans to do after high school just kind of shows where CNN’s credibility is at this point. Next to zero.

Perhaps CNN will tell us what he plans to do for the weekend? What his parents get him for his 18th birthday?

CNN, please do keep us informed! You know, “the most trusted named in news.”
