Campus Carry Advocate’s Graduation Photo with AR-10 Goes Viral

Liberals are in a tizzy over this tweet by a Kent State student who recently graduated, then posed with her AR-10 for this photo.

Kaitlin Bennett has been an advocate for campus carry at her university and even decorated her mortar board with a picture of a rifle and the words, “Come and Take It.”

From the Kansas City Star:

“You see in the media a lot about college students and high school students, being advocates for gun control,” she told NBC4. “But you don’t see a lot going viral about students who are pro-second amendment and pro-gun rights.”

Bennett told the school she planned to take the photos on Sunday, university spokesman Eric Mansfield told Fox 8 in Cleveland. Once she graduated, she was “no longer restricted under the policy as a student.”

Of course, the photo triggered liberals.

I love her responses.

I also find it kind of awesome that lately, it’s been young, college aged women who are causing a stir and are brazenly standing up for their Second Amendment rights. Girl power, indeed.

Opinion: NRA Member’s “Feud” with Alyssa Milano is Petty

The NRA annual convention wrapped up this week in Dallas and a record breaking 87,154 attendees traveled to the Lone Star State to check out the speakers, entertainers, appearances by the President and Vice President, and the latest firearms.

As expected, there were a fair share of protests from gun control advocates, including actress Alyssa Milano, who was there representing the NoRA organization. At the protest, she was approached by NRA member Will Haraway, who accused Milano of being a hypocrite because it appeared her security detail were carrying. During their converstation, Milano was escorted away by security and Haraway was asked to leave.

Here’s the unedited video from that exchange which Ben Howe from RedState posted on Twitter.

Milano states that the security hired for the protest was not her personal security detail and that she has no issues with law abiding NRA members.

Several pictures popped up online that show what might be the outline of a firearm under her guards’ clothing.

Do I agree with Alyssa Milano’s stance on gun control? Absolutely not. Like all “common sense gun reform,” it’s based on the idea that criminals will suddenly follow new laws when they already aren’t following current laws. Banning weapons isn’t going to change anything and may I remind her that the last time we had an assault weapons ban, Columbine happened right smack dab in the middle of it.

I do believe in her right to free speech and protest as she sees fit.

My problem with this whole exchange is that these kinds of things are only done so that the videos will go viral. Nothing has been gained on either side and it’s led to name calling and mudslinging from both sides. And since it was instigated by an NRA member, it really makes their side look like trouble-makers.

Milano says she has no problem with law abiding gun owners and her security detail is just that. We have no idea what they were carrying – could it have been a semi-automatic “assault weapon” that Milano wants to ban? Possibly.

Is she a hypocrite if that’s the case? Yes.

But this petty bickering really needs to stop. It would help the 2A cause more if we talk sensibly with people and present facts, rather than showing up at anti-gun protests to heckle people back.

Milano needs some educating, that’s for sure – she’s shared incorrect information from Mom’s Demand founder Shannon Watts multiple times but running up to her to shout “hypocrite” at her isn’t really going to change her position on anything. And unless she’s talking about Planned Parenthood, she’s wrong to blame an organization made up of millions of law abiding gun owners for deaths of innocents.

One thing the NRA could learn from these types of exchanges is that the way they present themselves in marketing campaigns and to the media could use some softening. Kimberly Ross at RedState wrote a great piece on this earlier this year. From that piece:

If we are to be the level-headed side, disagreeing with others but not pushing an emotional narrative, then the NRA needs to tone down its rhetoric. It is not helping the cause.

“…their fate will be failure and they will perish in the political flames of their own fires. We are the National Rifle Association of America, and we are freedom’s safest place.”

We are not engaged in a civil war, though some would certainly wish that to be the case. We hold differing opinions than our fellow Americans, some who don’t own guns, don’t want guns, and don’t understand why others might. You certainly don’t have to share their anti-gun views, but you should respect them.

Couldn’t agree more.

Next year, the convention moves to our hometown of Indianapolis and I’m planning to attend and cover the convention for our site. Doubtful either side of the gun issue will have come to any sort of agreement on anything, but maybe they’ll both be a little less petty when it comes to crashing each other’s events and protests.

Sheriff Israel Thinks No Confidence Vote Was about Pay Raises

The Broward County deputies have voted and the results are in: 534 union members voted no confidence, while 94 said they had confidence in the sheriff. According to the Union President Jeff Bell, this was the first time they’ve ever held a vote like this.

Sheriff Israel told news outlets at a press conference that “I am accountable to the citizens of Broward County. My job is to continue to do the job I was elected to do, which is to ensure the safety of Broward County’s 1.9 million residents.”

He also said that he thinks the deputies who voted no are mad about not getting a pay raise.

From ABC:

“I will not be distracted from my duties by this inconsequential IUPA union vote, which was designed to extort a 6.5 percent pay raise from this agency. Those who purportedly voted in this straw ballot reflect only a small number of the 5,400 BSO employees. The unions representing the vast majority of our employees solidly support the leadership of this agency.”

Sheriff Israel is delusional and it’s way past time for him to be fired.

Hilariously, when the union president called to tell him the news, he didn’t even pick up the phone. Instead he let it go to voicemail.

Must be too busy being an amazing leader and protecting cowardly cops who won’t go in a school to engage an active shooter.

Former Football Player Faces Backlash Over Daughter’s Prom Photo

Former NFL player Jay Feely posted a photo with his daughter and her date on Prom night. In the photo, Feely is holding a gun and the caption reads: “Wishing my beautiful daughter and her date a great time at prom

Unless you’ve been living under a rock your whole life, you’ve heard the joke about dads cleaning their guns while the boyfriend is at the house to send a signal not to do anything to hurt their daughter.

People were not amused. (I found it hilarious and obviously her prom date is in on it. )

The feminists somehow took it as a sign of ownership. Whatever.

Some are even calling for him to be taken off CBS sports.

Feely apologized but HE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO. It was posted in fun, the weapon was not aimed at her boyfriend and people need to calm down and have a sense of humor.

Sheriff Scott Israel Facing No Confidence Vote by His Deputies

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, who described himself as having amazing leadership, is facing a vote of no confidence from his own deputies.

From The Daily Caller:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputies Association has scheduled a no-confidence vote for Sheriff Scott Israel over his behavior during the lead-up to and aftermath of the Parkland school shooting, union president Deputy Jeff Bell announced Friday.

The union is accusing Israel of “many instances of suspected malfeasance, misfeasance, failure to maintain fiduciary responsibility by the sheriff, failure to properly investigate possible criminal conduct by members of his senior command staff and the lack of leadership that has crushed morale throughout the agency.”

Bell told CNN that “the historic move is due to the dysfunction of the office, which has been piling up for years. But it was Israel’s behavior after the school shooting that left 17 people dead that pushed the rank and file over the edge.”

There have been many calls for Israel to resign and some lawmakers have asked the governor to suspend him. Neither have happened.

Also from CNN:

The no-confidence voting period will close April 26, to allow all the voting members to cast their ballot during their shift. All deputies and sergeants in the union will have the power to vote.
While the outcome of the no-confidence vote is mostly symbolic, it will give the sheriff a sense of what his rank-and-file deputies think of his command.
“Some of his best supporters are being vocal against him,” said Bell. “The morale just disappeared. The morale is gone.”
Maybe now the sheriff will realize his incompetency and step down.

David and Lauren Hogg are Writing a Book

You had to see this one coming. David Hogg and his sister Lauren are writing a book. Entitled #NeverAgain, it will feature  a forward written by Parkland student and activist Emma Gonzalez.

David’s sister Lauren says the book “tells the story of how we turned our grief into action and how we fight and speak out for those who no longer can.”

From the synopsis on Amazon:

This book is a manifesto for the movement begun that day, one that has already changed America–with voices of a new generation that are speaking truth to power, and are determined to succeed where their elders have failed. With moral force and clarity, a new generation has made it clear that problems previously deemed unsolvable due to powerful lobbies and political cowardice will be theirs to solve. Born just after Columbine and raised amid seemingly endless war and routine active shooter drills, this generation now says, Enough. This book is their statement of purpose, and the story of their lives. It is the essential guide to the #NeverAgain movement.

The book will be released on June 5th and according to the Hoggs’, all proceeds will benefit healing in the Parkland community as well as fighting gun violence, but name no specific organizations to which they are donating.

Assault Style Weapons Pulled from Dick’s Shelves Will be Destroyed

Back in February, Dick’s Sporting Goods announced they would be pulling all assault style weapons from their Field & Stream store shelves, along with raising the age to buy firearms in their stores to 21.  Their stores would also no longer carry high capacity magazines or sell bump stocks.

Dick’s had pulled the weapons off the shelves in their main stores after Sandy Hook, but the offshoot store Field & Stream was still carrying semi-automatic riffles.

Many have wondered what the chain would do with the unsold merchandise and now we have an answer: Dick’s is destroying  all of it.

The Pittsburgh-Post Gazette reports that the guns are being destroyed at Dick’s distribution centers and the company is following guidelines outlined by the federal government to complete the process. Parts will be sent to a salvage company for recycling.

A spokesperson for Dick’s did not say how much merchandise was being destroyed and also did not comment on what the retailer did with the guns they pulled in 2012.

Most of the response on Twitter was positive.
