Oscar Award winning actor Matthew McConaughey sat down to talk with fellow actor Russell Brand on his podcast. While McConaughey was there to promote his new book “Greenlights”, the topic turned to politics.
Brand asked McConaughey what he thought about the condescending attitude that Hollywood seems to have for the working people.
“A kind of offhandedness of like, oh they’re dumb,” Brand began. “They’re voting for Brexit, they’re voting for Trump. I don’t like it and I don’t like to hear it,” he said.
McConaughey responded that he feels people should meet in the middle and Hollywood should get “aggressively centric.”
He also talked about their attitude toward the rest of the country that’s not on the left leaning side.
“There are a lot on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize and are arrogant towards the other 50%,” McConaughey told Brand. He added that most of Hollywood was in denial over Trump’s 2016 win.
The actor also touched on fake news, saying even though it looks like “Biden’s our guy” he understands why people on the right may have a hard time believing it because they’ve been fed fake news.
“No one knows who the hell to believe, right?” McConaughey said.
