Alex Trebek, the beloved host of ‘Jeopardy!’, passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 80 on Sunday. His final taped show will air on December 25th and there’s already speculation on who might take over as host of the popular game show.
The Daily Mail reports that reps for George Stephanopoulos are lobbying for him to succeed Trebek.
The Wraps’ report that the broadcast journalist’s reps are lobbying for him to be the next host comes from a ‘highly placed person with knowledge of the situation.’
That same source told the outlet that the ABC News anchor is reportedly eyeing the position while his reps lobby hard at ABC.
Stephanopoulos already works for ABC, which holds the syndication rights for the show. CBS and Sony Television distribute the game show, so they’ll also get a say.
Yesterday, Mike Richards, the Executive Producer of ‘Jeopardy!’, paid tribute to Trebek on the show.
