Country music star Chris Stapleton has angered fans and triggered boycotts over comments he made about Black Lives Matter and the state of America.
Speaking with “CBS This Morning” co-host Anthony Mason about his upcoming album and the affect the pandemic has had on releasing new music, Stapleton told the host he was moved by the Black Lives Matter protests.
The singer told Mason, “I think everybody should be doing more,” he said. “It’s time for me to listen. And it’s time for other folks to listen.”
After seeing the protests, his perspective on the country has changed too.
“You know, I thought we were living in a different country. And that’s 100% real,” Stapleton said. “I feel like the country that I thought that we were living in was a myth.”
When asked if he believes black lives matter, Stapleton said “Absolutely…I don’t know how you could think they don’t.”
Fans of the singer are angry over the comments, with many saying they’re boycotting his music and throwing out his old albums.
Stapleton’s new album “Starting Over” comes out November 13th.
