Pelosi doesn’t trust Dr. Birx because she ‘stood there while Trump talked about swallowing Lysol’

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is spreading the lie that President Trump suggested people swallow Lysol as a treatment for COVID-19.

The New York Times reported that the Speaker isn’t happy with Dr. Birx. Following that report, CNN’s Jim Sciutto interviewed Pelosi, asking her about her confidence in the job Dr. Birx is doing and about some comments she made accusing the doctor of enabling President Trump.

What happened is we had a conversation about how we stop the virus, and when we did, they were making contentions about how tracing isn’t a valuable thing, we shouldn’t do it, and I said ‘Well that’s not what most scientists say.’ And they said ‘we’ll bring a scientist to say that,’ and I said ‘Make sure it’s not Dr. Birx because I don’t have confidence in anyone who stands there while the president says swallow Lysol and it’s going to cure your virus.’” Pelosi said.

Dr. Birx addressed Pelosi’s comments over the weekend on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“I have tremendous respect for the Speaker, and I have tremendous respect for her long dedication to the American people, and I think it was unfortunate that the New York Times wrote this article without speaking to me. I could have brought forth the data. I provide data every single day with an analysis.”
