Trump says he was being sarcastic about injecting disinfectants in the body

At yesterday’s Coronavirus presser, President Trump’s question about injecting disinfectants in the body as a way to kill the virus became an international headline. Medical professionals came out strongly against the idea and urged people not to try that as a way to kill the virus and some companies issued statements saying their products should not be used in that manner.

Even though it was phrased as a question to Dr. Birx, the media ran with the idea that it was somehow a recommendation from President Trump for people to do this.

Now,  the President has said his remarks yesterday were just sarcastic and he asked the question to see how reporters would react.

“I was asking a sarcastic, & a very sarcastic question, to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside. But it does kill it,” he said.

The media is not buying it.

Even some at Fox didn’t think the moment seemed sarcastic.

Whether or not it was sarcasm or an unfortunate gaffe, it would be a better look for the President to just come out and say, “I was wrong in the way I phrased the question. Here’s what I really meant.”

But that wouldn’t be Donald Trump if he did that.
