Former Vice President Joe Biden told supporters he would pick a woman as his running mate and the campaign has confirmed that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is a contender.
Biden told MSNBC’s Brian Williams that “she made the list in my mind two months ago. There’s probably going to be a list, I’m in the process of — Brian, we’ll have it by mid-April, putting together an organization that will run the background checks … by the second or third week in April.”
“I’ve thought about some of the women who I believe are ready to be president and I think I can work with and would be willing to work with me. It’s going to be somewhere between six and 10 of them,” Biden continued.
Whitmer’s been in the news recently, as President Trump referred to her as a “big problem” and said “all she does is sit there and blame the federal government” for the response to Coronavirus.
The governor fired back, tweeting “Hi, my name is Gretchen Whitmer, and that governor is me. I’ve asked repeatedly and respectfully for help. We need it. No more political attacks, just PPEs, ventilators, N95 masks, test kits. You said you stand with Michigan — prove it.”
She then stated she is “happy to work with the VP. We get along well!”

If Biden selects Whitmer, it could be a move that will help him win Midwest swing states and states that went for Trump in 2016.
