Despite a state lock down and widespread surging of COVID-19, New Yorkers gathered to watch the USNS Comfort arrive. According to The Daily Mail, people were not adhering to the social distancing order, causing Mayor Bill de Blasio to suggest imposing a $500 fine for not practicing the social distancing recommendations in public.
The pictures from The Daily Mail show people pushing against the railings at the pier to watch the ship come in. A few are wearing masks; many are not. Others can be seen out running through the crowds and are not 6 feet away from everyone else.

Local NBC affiliate also reported on the story, confirming crowds of people showed up to watch the ship arrive.
