Trump addresses the nation on Iran

Last night, the news broke that Iran had launched rockets at United States airbases bases in Iraq and the Iranian government claimed large US casualties on their media outlets. President Trump has addressed the nation, refuting that claim by Iran and threatening new sanctions on the country.

“All of our soldiers are safe,” the President said. “The American people should be extremely grateful and happy. No Americans were harmed in last night’s attack by the Iranian regime,” and added that “only minimal damage was sustained at our military bases.”

The President also warned Iran that new sanctions were coming and said that the country appears to be backing down from their retaliation to last week’s drone strike that killed Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer responded to the President’s statements saying, ” We commend the bravery of our service members and personnel in harm’s way. And I condemn the attack by the Iranian government and remain concerned about the risk of a further escalation. Americans do not want a war with Iran. President Trump does not have the authority for one.”

The President closed out his statement by addressing the Iranian people, saying “We want you to have a future, and a great future, one that you deserve, the United States is ready to embrace peace with all who seek it.”
