Ricky Gervais’ monologue at Golden Globes: ‘You’re in no position to lecture,’ ‘accept your award and f**k off’

Last night was one of Hollywood’s biggest nights. It was filled with backslapping, high-fiving and self-congratulatory speeches as millionaires handed out awards to other millionaires.

There really weren’t any major surprises. Quentin Tarantino won for “Once Upon a Time….in Hollywood, Jaoquin Phoenix won for his outstanding performance in “Joker,” and “1917,” the WWI flick won best drama. So, by Hollywood standards, it was a pretty boring night.

However, the biggest surprise likely came during the program’s opening moments. The show’s host, the British comic Ricky Gervais, didn’t pull any punches and went right after the room for their predictable political speeches filled with liberal talking points. Gervais pointed out their blatant hypocrisy and told them they aren’t really in the position to be telling others how to live their lives.

Of course, it was all in jest but with every joke there is a kernel of truth but in this case the kernel is rather large.
