Mattel releasing gender neutral dolls

For $30, your child could soon have a gender neutral doll from Mattel, the makers of Barbie.

According to Time, the dolls will be made with no gender specific features – ” the lips are not too full, the eyelashes not too long and fluttery, the jaw not too wide.” Some will feature pronouns such as him, her, them, xem and a slogan of “a doll line designed to keep labels out and invite everyone in.”

The magazine says the company tested the doll out with “250 families across seven states, including 15 children who identify as trans, gender-nonbinary or gender-fluid and rarely see themselves reflected in the media, let alone their playthings.”
