Traditionally, American teams who win national and world titles in sporting events get invited to the White House following their win. Yesterday, the United States’ women’s soccer team took home the World Cup, but after comments several players have made about the President, he’s feeling cool to the idea of inviting them to visit.
Megan Rapinoe already stated she wouldn’t be going, and at that time, Trump tweeted that she should wait to see if the team won before making any declarations of that nature.
But now that they’ve clinched the title, reporters asked the President at news conference on Sunday how he was feeling about extending an invitation.
“We haven’t really thought about it. We’ll look at that,” he said.
The President did, however congratulate the team on Twitter after their win.
Congratulations to the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team on winning the World Cup! Great and exciting play. America is proud of you all!
