UK writer Stella Duffy is not happy with the new “Toy Story 4” movie and slammed the cartoon for failing to cast any people of color in a leading role.
”Seriously, it’s 2019! What on Earth are Disney doing having a film that has no leads that are black characters.”
”Yes, there are black actors, but they are yellow and they are green and they are plush! How can they possibly think that it’s alright now?” she told BBC Radio 4.
She also says the movie is anti-feminist, especially Bo Peep. ‘Okay, let’s talk about the white feminism on display here,’ she explained. ‘Oh look! Bo-Peep’s a feminist. No she’s not! She’s still going to fall in love, she’s still going to have the happily ever after, that’s not feminism! It’s a woman who kicks off her skirt to reveal bloomers.”
Duffy got a lot of hate for her comments, with many people pointing out they are animated characters.
just had my first-ever reviewing hate email as a result of noting (on #SaturdayReview) that #ToyStory4 only has white toy leads & the Mamet is, er, misogynist. Lengthy email also notes Weinstein AND Spacey's problems are due to feminist conspiracy. so, obv, taking it seriously.

In this movie, kids enjoy the toy’s personalities, not their origins. By forcing children to note the colors of these animals, potatoes, and extraterrestrial gadgets, you’re the one encouraging racism.
Plus, quick heads up, you’re white. 🤷🏻♀️#toystory4 pic.twitter.com/6qOLgpvaaR

Dear lord it’s a kids film. The world is broken.
