Robert Downey Jr. plans to clean up the world with advanced technology

He may be done playing Iron Man on the big screen, but it sounds like actor Robert Downey Jr. is planning to mirror Tony Stark in real life.

Yesterday, the actor announced plans to launch a new organization called The Footprint Coalition which will help clean up the planet using advanced technology and robotics. Speaking at Amazon’s Re:Mars conference in Las Vegas Downey Jr. said he thinks it can be done in ten years time.

“Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years,” he said. “I have this quiet sense of crisis, I’m a one-man carbon footprint nightmare colossus.”

The program will launch next April, although not many details are known about how Downey Jr. plans to use the tech. A web site for the coalition just says “coming soon” and asks people to sign up for the newsletter where they can “be the first to know about our next steps on this environmental journey.”
