At least 11 people and the shooter are dead after a public utilities employee opened fired on coworkers at the Virginia Beach municipal building. Authorities have confirmed that at least six others were wounded, including a police officer.
“This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach,” Mayor Bobby Dwyer said. “The people involved are our friends, coworkers, neighbors and colleagues.”

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, who is on his way to Virginia Beach, tweeted “This is a tragic day for Virginia Beach and our entire Commonwealth. My heart breaks for the victims of this devastating shooting, their families, and all who loved them. I am on my way to Virginia Beach now and will be there within the hour.”
