Authorities aren’t sure what caused the fire and are working to put the blaze out, and French President Emmanuel Macron is reportedly on his way to the scene.

President Trump addressed the fire, tweeting “So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!”

The cathedral, which was the setting of Victor Hugo’s classic novel “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame,” dates back to the 12th century.
