Rep. Ted Lieu plays Candace Owens’ Hitler comments at congressional hearing on hate crimes

Turning Point USA Communications Director Candace Owens is not happy that California Democrat Rep. Ted Lieu chose to play a clip of some comments she made about Hitler at a British TPUSA event.

Owens was criticized for saying  she thinks the word “nationalism” is “poisoned” by “elitists that actually want globalism” and who attribute the word with Hitler’s Nazi agenda.

A video went viral with her comments, Lieu played that clip and said, “In congressional hearings, the minority party gets to select its own witnesses. And of all the people Republicans could have selected, they picked Candace Owens.”

“I don’t know Ms. Owens. I’m not going to characterize her. I’m going to let her own words do the talking,” he said.

Lieu never allowed Owens to respond, instead turning to panel member Eileen Hershenov who is from the Anti-Defamation League, saying “When people try to legitimize Adolph Hitler, does that feed into white nationalist ideology?”

When Owens was finally able to address the incident, she said “I think it’s pretty apparent that Mr. Lieu believes that black people are stupid and will not pursue the full clip in its entirety. He purposely presented an extracted clip.”

She also later addressed the incident on Twitter.
