On Tuesday, prosecutors in Chicago unexpectedly dropped all charges against actor Jussie Smollett.
Smollett had been charged with 16 different counts after he allegedly staged a hate crime, blaming it on two Trump supporters.
The Cook County Prosecutor’s Office apparently pulled off the move without telling the mayor’s office or the Chicago Police Department.
While the “Empire” actor will not face state charges, he could still face federal charges. At this time, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now looking into the case.
At this time, according to two law enforcement sources, the bureau is just looking into why the charges were dropped.
