Slate thinks we live in a democracy and that the Electoral College may threaten it

The Democrats want to do away with the Electoral College and just have the presidency be decided by a national popular vote.

Of course, this is for two major reasons: Donald Trump is President of the United States and liberal, coastal states with big populations would then decide the presidency, if the Electoral College is abolished.

But one liberal publication recently posed the question of doing away with the Electoral College and whether it threatens our….”democracy?”

That only problem being that we don’t live in a democracy. Last time I checked we elected people to vote on our behalf and I think that’s called a republic.

Maybe before asking if we should do away with something that has worked for 200-plus years, have an idea of what form of government we have first.

But Slate, you do you.
