Man who bought $500 worth of Girl Scout cookies busted for drugs

You know how some stories seem too good to be true? Well this is one of those.

Last week a man was being praised for buying over $500 worth of Girl Scout cookies from a troop so they wouldn’t have to stand outside in the cold to sell them.

It seemed odd – who has that much cash on them? I personally had the thought, he’s probably a drug dealer, then laughed it off.

Turns out, that’s exactly what he was. Detric McGowan was busted on federal drug charges yesterday morning in South Carolina.

According to CBS, he’s being charged with conspiring to “intentionally and unlawfully” possess heroin, cocaine and fentanyl with the intent to distribute.

The Girl Scouts told CBS:

Officials of the Girl Scouts of South Carolina-Mountains to Midlands gave a statement to WSPA-TV: “Nobody was hurt. Nobody was threatened,” said the unnamed officials. “We had no reason to believe that this man was anything other than one of our valuable customers that is helping Girl Scouts power awesome experiences through the Girl Scout Cookie Program. This is now in the hands of law enforcement and of course we will cooperate with authorities.”
