On Monday afternoon, the Senate voted on Sen. Ben Sasse’s Born Alive Survivor’s Protection Act. Unfortunately, it was defeated by a 53-44 vote.
The bill would’ve provided protection for babies who survived botched abortions, requiring medical attention.
Every Republican supported the measure, except for Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski who did not vote on it.
Three Democrats crossed the aisle and voted in favor of the bill, including Doug Jones of Alabama, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Bob Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania. Every other Democrat voted against it and stood for infanticide, including 2020 presidential candidates Harris, Booker, Gillibrand, Warren, Klobuchar and Sanders.
Following the vote, several organizations and elected officials actually cheered the failure of the bill.

Tonight's Republican attack on women's reproductive rights is gov't interference in women’s health, in families’ lives, & in medicine on steroids. Top health & medical organizations agree & joined people across the country to speak out & get it voted down. #ProtectProviders

Conservative politicians should not be telling doctors how they should care for their patients. Instead, women – in consultation with their families and doctors – are best positioned to determine their best course of care. https://t.co/ri2xLqJrE0

. @SenDuckworth: "The goal here is obvious: to bully doctors out of giving reproductive care, to scare them out of business one potential lawsuit or jail sentence at a time." Absolute 🔥🔥#ProtectProviders pic.twitter.com/yl7znB8UO0
