So it really appears that “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett’s “hate crime” was entirely fake.
In late January, Smollett said that early in the morning of January 29, two men attacked him, saying shouting racial and homophobic slurs in the process. He told authorities that they put a rope around his neck and poured bleach on him and were also to have said “this is MAGA Country” while carrying out their hate crime.
The media was quick to buy into Smollett’s attack story. However, there some that were even quicker to accept the entire story: New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker and California Senator Kamala Harris.
The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching. I'm glad he's safe.
To those in Congress who don't feel the urgency to pass our Anti-Lynching bill designating lynching as a federal hate crime– I urge you to pay attention. https://t.co/EwXFxl5f2m

.@JussieSmollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery.
This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.

As you can imagine, these tweets have not aged very well at all. In fact, they kind of look like both Booker and Harris may have jumped the gun a tad before learning all the facts were known.
But why wait for all the information if it means it might win you votes, right?
Well, after learning that Smollett’s story looks to be a concocted lie to drum up racial animosity, Booker wants to wait before passing further judgment from up on high.
Cory Booker quickly called the Jussie “attack” a “modern day lynching.”
He was just asked about it now that the entire thing is falling apart and he continues to put the blame on conservatives saying the majority of terrorist attacks are done by the right pic.twitter.com/qtEVbGHmGc
