Pelosi says next Democrat president could declare national emergency on gun violence

It appears that the government will not shut down after the Senate passed a bill doing so Thursday afternoon. The House is expected to do the same thing some time Thursday evening.

President Trump, after a bit of uncertainty, will sign the funding bill, according to Mitch McConnell. Also, McConnell and later the White House, said Trump would declare a national emergency on the border in order to get the money for his wall.

Well, Trump’s move may open the door for other consequences.

Nancy Pelosi says Democratic presidents can declare national emergencies as well. For instance, Pelosi mentioned a possible national emergency on gun violence.

“So the precedent that the president is setting here is something that should be met with great unease and dismay by the Republicans,” she said.
