In the immediate aftermath, several called out her for the messages, including a number of Democrats. Democratic House Leadership condemned the comments and called for her to immediately apologize.
Ilhan Omar did as she was instructed and put out a non-apology apology, which she said sorry for her comments and then in the very next paragraph essentially excused her comments.

Democrats have now accepted her apology and will not remove her from any committees, including House Foreigns Affairs.
On Tuesday afternoon, President Donald Trump responded to the controversy surrounding Omar and said she actually needs to resign from Congress and went on to call her apology “lame.”
President Trump on Rep. @IlhanMN: "Her lame apology, and that's what it was, it was lame, and she didn't mean a word of it was just not appropriate. I think she should resign from Congress." pic.twitter.com/6rbPUDdFuz
