Connecticut state rep. proposes 50% tax on ammunition

A Democrat in the state of Connecticut may have proposed one of the dumbest pieces of legislation in recent memory.

Jillian Gilchrest, a state representative, has introduced HB 5700. Her bill would increase tax on ammunition by 50 percent in the state, but she does go on to say, that proposed tax would not apply to law enforcement or the military.

In a video posted to social media, she says the tax would be “a prevention measure.”

Prevent what? People from affording ammunition in order to protect themselves and exercise their Second Amendment rights?

Does this woman really believe that if you tax ammunition higher that you’ll actually stop criminals from obtaining guns or ammunition? Does she not understand the definition of the word “criminal?”

But her rationale for proposing the tax gets even better. The woman then goes on to say that her bill is a public health measure, comparing it to the consumption of cigarettes. I may be mistaken but I don’t remember a gun ever giving anyone cancer or emphysema.
