Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Abrams to give State of the Union response

On Friday a deal was reached to reopen the government following the longest shutdown in our nation’s history. During the course of the shutdown, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi revoked her invitation to President Trump to address a joint session of Congress on Jan. 29.

On Monday, following an exchange of letter between Pelosi and Trump, they agreed that the State of the Union will happen on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Trump, most likely, will use the majority of the speech talking about immigration, the wall and border security. Republicans in the House chambers will stand up and applaud after every other word Trump says.  Democrats, on the other hand, will stay sitting as the camera pans over prominent lawmakers to get their reactions during Trump’s speech.over prominent lawmakers to get their reactions during Trump’s speech.

Not agreeing with anything President Trump, the Democrats will need to refute everything the president said just an hour prior. So, in order to tell the nation how everything President Trump just said was wrong, the Democrats will trot out former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Abrams as his pick to give the response Tuesday afternoon. Schumer said that he had actually asked Abrams to give the response three weeks ago while the government was still shutdown.
