The Golden Globes aired last night and actor Christian Bale won for his portrayal of former Vice President Dick Cheney in the movie Vice. In his acceptance speech, Bale thanked a very unusual being – Satan.
“Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration for playing this role,” Bale said. He also thanked his wife and the movie’s director Adam McKay, saying “He said, ‘I have to find somebody that can be absolutely charisma free and reviled by everybody, so we wanted Christian Bale.’”
He then joked he’s cornered the market on charisma free and his next role would be Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
The Church of Satan seemed pleased by Bale’s speech, and posted this tweet on their Twitter account.
To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential. As Mr. Bale's own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan! https://t.co/ILuK8TFZXi
