Sen. Cruz and Rep. Rooney propose Constitutional amendment for Congressional term limits

On Thursday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Florida Representative Francis Rooney proposed an amendment to the United States Constitution that would impose term limits on members of both houses of Congress.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Utah Senator Mike Lee and Georgia Senator David Purdue co-sponsored the bill, which would limit senators to two six year terms and house members to three two year terms.

“For too long, members of Congress have abused their power and ignored the will of the American people,” Cruz said on Twitter. “Term limits on members of Congress offer a solution to the brokenness we see in Washington, D.C. It is long past time for Congress to hold itself accountable.”

Sen. Cruz has tried this before, and term limits seem to be a popular idea among voters, Democrats and the President.
