Mattel considering same sex Barbie wedding set

When a gay man wanted to buy a same sex Barbie wedding set as a gift for his niece, he wasn’t able to find one. So he improvised and made his own, then posted the set on Instagram with a message to Mattel.

Now, the toy company has invited Matt Jacobi and his partner Nick Caprio to their headquarters in January to discuss the idea.

Care2 has also started an online petition to send to Mattel in hopes that if they get over 10,000 signatures, it will convince the toy maker that there is an interest and market for same sex Barbie.

Based on Mattel’s history, it’s likely the couple will get their wish. In recent years, they’ve created a Curvy Barbie, Hijab Barbie and a Barbie in a wheelchair.
