‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ wins the box office, swings into $35M

Ralph is no longer king at the box office, the top spot now belongs to another animated character.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” came in at no. 1 as it swung into an impressive $35.4M opening weekend haul.  The animated film not only won with audiences but also with critics, with a 97 percent score on RottenTomatoes.com.

Coming in at the second spot was the new film by box office legend Clint Eastwood, “The Mule.” The R-rated crime-drama made a little more than $17M, also in its first weekend of release.  Finishing in the third and fourth spots were a pair of familiar faces, “The Grinch” at no. 3  with $11.6M and “Ralph Breaks the Internet” at four with a little under $10M.

Next weekend, things really begin to get interesting as a whole host of high-profile films hit the box office, including “Mary Poppins Returns,” “Aquaman” and “Holmes and Watson.”
