Mother upset after Southwest Airlines employee mocked her daughter’s name

Perpetual outrage is a big part of today’s climate. Everyone is constantly offended by one thing or another.

It seems that every day there is something new that is deemed either racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic. Then after that person has been “offended,” they either run to a lawyer or the media in order to get attention, money or both.

Here’s a new one for you: a woman in Texas is upset because an airline employee made fun of her daughter’s name.

Yes, it sounds terrible. A grown woman who is having fun at the expense of a 5-year-old girl, isn’t the best thing in the entire world and likely any parent would be upset, but let’s take a step back for a second. The girl’s name is Abcde and is pronounced “ab-city.”

Again, it’s not the best look for the woman making fun of the little girl or the company. In fact, the company actually apologized to the family:

“We extend our sincere apology to the family. We take great pride in extending our Southwest Hospitality to all of our Customers, which includes living by the Golden Rule and treating every individual with respect, in person or online. The post is not indicative of the care, respect, and civility we expect from all of our Employees. We have followed up with the Employee involved, and while we do not disclose personnel actions publicly, we are using this as an opportunity to reinforce our policies and emphasize our expectations for all Employees.”

If a grown woman is making fun of the little girl’s name, what does mom think kids on the playground are going to do? Kids are brutally honest and downright mean, at times. Perhaps, naming giving the child a name comprised entirely of the first five letters of the alphabet wasn’t the best of ideas?
