No, instead the Oscar nominee will star, along side Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, in a drama series. The series, which does not have a title, will appear on Apple’s streaming service.
Carell will play a television anchor struggling to come to grips with the changing media landscape in the two-season, 20 episode series. The series is based on the book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV
Carell originally made his name playing the clueless and bumbling Michael Scott on The Office. He departed the show two seasons before the series ended its 9-year run.
Since leaving television Carell has starred in a number of films, being nominated for two Oscars. He’s likely to be nominated again for his performance in this year’s Beautiful Boy.
