Rose McGowan, the actress who started the whole #MeToo movement when she accused Harvey Weinstein of rape, made some surprising comments about the movement in today’s Sunday Times Magazine.
The Daily Mail reports that McGowan, who is this year’s GQ Man of the Year award winner, says she understands why Trump supporters hate the fake liberalism of Hollywood. She calls out fellow actresses like Gwyneth Paltrow and Salma Hayek who also claim to be victims of harassment and calls the movement “bulls***.”
On the subject of #MeToo, she said: ‘I just think they’re douchebags. They’re not champions. I just think they’re losers. I don’t like them.
”How do I explain the fact that I got a GQ Man of the Year award and no women’s magazines and no women’s organisations have supported me?”
”It’s all bullshit. It’s a lie. It’s a Band-Aid lie to make them feel better. I know these people, I know they’re lily-livered, and as long as it looks good on the surface, to them, that’s enough.”
She also argues that Hollywood isn’t truly feminist because directors are overwhelming male and that they’re only interested in women if they are ”f***able”.
