Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish top box office with ‘Night School’

Moviegoers decided it was time to go back to school as they went to Night School this weekend. The film, starring comedians Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish, raked in an impressive $28M in its opening weekend. The comedy took the top spot despite not being a hit with critics, only managing to scrounge up a 30 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Not far behind was the new animated feature film, Smallfoot. The flick, featuring the voices of Channing Tatum, Common and LeBron James, took in $23M in its debut. Last weekend’s No. 1 film, The House with a Clock in Its Walls, took the third spot.

Coming in fourth was the Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively mystery-thriller, A Simple Favor. Rounding out the top five at the box office was the horror flick, The Nun.

Hart and Haddish will attempt to hold on to the top spot next weekend as they battle highly-anticipated newcomers Venom and A Star is Born.
