On Thursday, Professor Ford and Judge Kavanaugh went before the Senate Judiciary Committee about sexual allegations. Ford went before the committee first, answering questions about the allegations from Democratic senators, Republican senators and a special prosecutor from Arizona hired by the Republicans. After Ford answered questions for several hours, it was Kavanaugh’s turn.
However, one early surprise during Kavanaugh’s time in front of the committee was during Sen. Lindsey Graham’s opening remarks. To say that Graham was fired up and frankly had had enough of the whole entire process is to put it lightly.
Graham called out his Democratic colleagues for openly calling for blocking and voting against Kavanaugh soon after Kavanaugh was named President Trump’s nominee.
Graham called out Democrats for holding on the Ford letter and for never calling for an FBI investigation when there was time. At one point said “if you really wanted to know the truth, you sure as hell wouldn’t have done what you did to this guy.”
Likely the most powerful time during Graham’s remarks were when he called out his Republicans colleagues for waffling on voting for Kavanuagh. “To my Republican colleagues, if you vote no you’re legitimizing the most despicable thing I have seen in my time in politics.”
Graham said he couldn’t imagine what his family had been through, calling it “hell” and saying the entire sexual assault investigation.
