Florida teacher fired for refusing to give students grades who failed to turn in work

In life we’re always told that if you really want something, go out and work for it. Apparently, that isn’t true in the world of education.

Yes, one school in Florida really wants to reward its students for not doing work.

The woman,Diane Tirado, an 8th grade history teacher at West Gate K-8 in St. Lucie, Florida, got the boot after refusing to give students, who did not turn in an assignment, grades.

Tirado gave students an assignment and gave them two weeks to complete it. However, a number of students did not meet the due date and failed to turn in anything at all. The teacher, being like any other teacher that you or I had, gave those students 0s. The school, unfortunately didn’t appreciate that move.

You see, the school has something called a “no zero policy” and Tirado violated this insane rule. According to the school, Tirado should have given the kids who didn’t put in any effort a 50% on the assignment.

Tirado reportedly refused to change the grade and was promptly fired by the school.

Tirado’s response to the whole ordeal perfectly sums up what is happening to our society where everyone is expected to get something for nothing:

“I’m so upset because we have a nation of kids that are expecting to get paid and live their life just for showing up and it’s not real.”

Tirado’s response is a great response to an idiotic policy and a larger mentality that is slowly destroying society.
