Christine Blasey Ford has some specific demands for the GOP if she’s to testify against SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Through her lawyers, Ford stated that she can appear on Thursday, she wants to go first and doesn’t want Kavanaugh in the room. She also doesn’t want to be questioned by lawyers, only senators.
However, those were not the terms the GOP had set forth initially – they want hold the hearing on Monday but Ford’s lawyers said while she’s open to testifying, Monday won’t work.
According to a report from The Hill, following Ford’s demands, they are offering her a counter deal: testify on Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, then let Kavanaugh respond. The Hill also reports that GOP leadership would like to have “an independent, outside counsel — preferably a woman — ask the questions so as not to appear insensitive to her claims of trauma.”
As of yet, the hearing has not been rescheduled and Ford’s lawyers have not responded to the new terms.
