Professor Christine Blasey Ford has accused Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault in the 1980s. She claims that during party, when she was 15 and Kavanaugh was 17 he held her down and attempted to rape her. Prior to Ms. Ford and her lawyer coming forward with these allegations against Kavanaugh, the Senate Judiciary Committee was set to vote on Thursday. Well, I guess you see that didn’t happen.
In order to allow both Kavanaugh and Ms. Ford to speak on the allegations, the Republicans on the committee set a Monday hearing, but for the longest time they never heard from Ford or her lawyer, despite several attempts to reach the lawyer. Now, Ms. Ford wants to speak next week, but just not Monday. Her lawyer says “would be prepared to testify next week” but only if with “terms that are fair and which ensure her safety.” Her lawyer even went so far as to say that her client talking Monday is “not possible.”
Listen, if something really happened and Kavanaugh actually assaulted the woman, tell the body that can either confirm or deny him a position on the Supreme Court. Why in the world would you just keep delaying? If the events occurred as you say they did, wouldn’t you already have a treasure trove of evidence ready to go whenever wherever?
What will happen if they decide to move the hearing to Wednesday? Will she say that Thursday just works better for her? Wouldn’t a victim want to tell her story as soon as possible?
