After three consecutive weeks, there’s a new top film at the box office. Moviegoers showed they were in the mood for some scares this weekend. The R-rated horror film, “The Nun,” finished at the top spot with nearly $54 million.
“The Nun” put an end to the reign of “Crazy Rich Asians” at the box office as it finished second with a respectable $13.6 million in its fourth week of release. This weekend’s other big release, the Jennifer Garner revenge flick, “Peppermint,” took the third spot with $13.3 million. “The Meg” continues to hang around. It another $6 million this weekend.
“The Nun” dominated at the box office despite terrible reviews from critics, only managing to score a 28 percent rating at RottenTomatoes.
There will be stiff competition next weekend as “The Predator” opens. Will “The Nun” be able to hold off the beast and maintain the top spot? My guess: yes, but not by much.
