Judge Brett Kavanaugh is looking to become the next Supreme Court Justice. Tuesday marked the first day Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
In his remarks, Kavanaugh singles out his mother, as a prosecutor, and former Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy as is judicial heroes. Two people who he says he’s tried to model himself after as a judge, in that he looks to always interpret the Constitution as it was written and intended. Kavanaugh mentions that keeping an open mind, listening to the facts of the case, and then letting the chips fall where they may, according to the United States Constitution.
He goes on to mention the number of cases presided over and the vast number of opinions he’s issued. He discusses his commitment to the rich, poor, the environmentalists, the coal miners, the defense and the prosecution. Kavanaugh brings up the need for the Supreme Court to not be an ideological branch and interpret cases soley based on the facts as according to the law.
Like most confirmation hearings, Kavanaugh’s is sure to be a wild and theatrical show full of grandstanding politicians looking to use the opportunity to advance their name and their agenda. However, right or left, it’s hard to dislike what Kavanaugh had to say in his opening remarks.
