Ron DeSantis, Florida’s GOP nominee for governor, finds himself at the center of a controversy.
Just one day after winning the Republican primary for governor in the Sunshine state, DeSantis is in hot water for comments he made during an interview with Fox News’ Sandra Smith.
During the interview, DeSantis said:
“We’ve gotta work hard to make sure we continue Florida going in a good direction. Let’s build off this success we’ve had of Gov. Scott. The last thing we need to do is monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda, huge tax increases and bankrupting the state. That is not gonna work. That is not gonna be good for Florida. So, I’m gonna fight for what I believe in because I think I’m the guy who can really lead Florida.”
Ron DeSantis says that Florida voters shouldn't "monkey this up" by electing black governor candidate Andrew Gillum instead of him. https://t.co/cnpznDhNmT pic.twitter.com/rNDbJSw4qi

If you haven’t figured it out yet, DeSantis’ Democratic opponent is black, Andrew Gillum.
Since those comments both Gillum and Smith, the woman who conducted the interview with DeSantis, have spoken out.
