On Saturday night, Sen. John McCain passed away following an extended battle with brain cancer. Whether you agreed with McCain’s politics or not, it shouldn’t stop someone from being decent after he died.
However, that wasn’t the case Saturday night just hours after the Arizona senator and former prisoner of war died. As expected, a number of McCain’s colleagues, friends and family tweeted out messages, sending their condolences and sympathy to the McCain family.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was one of those who expressed his feelings about the passing of Sen. McCain.
Sanders posted the following on Twitter:
John McCain was an American hero, a man of decency and honor and a friend of mine. He will be missed not just in the U.S. Senate but by all Americans who respect integrity and independence. Jane and I send our deepest condolences to his family.

Simple enough, right? Sanders mentions McCain’s time in the Senate, calls him an “American hero” and talked about how the senator was a man who had the deep respect of Americans everywhere.
Apparently, not. Several of Sanders following expressed their dismay with Sanders statement by responding with some really disgusting and vile messages.
“Man of decency and honor” is where this post starts to go downhill…because that’s a bold face lie 🤷🏻♀️

I will never feel more sympathy for the John McCain than I feel for all of the innocent people who his lust for war and death has killed.
At least he can't hurt anyone anymore.

Good Goddess @SenSanders I wish all of Congress would stop thinking of these warmongers as "good friends" when nothing about them qualifies them as a friend of anyone outside of Lockheed, Raytheon, et cetera. How can we, your fervent supporters, get you to listen to us instead???

It's absolutely disgusting the way so many are praising mccain. He was no hero but a supporter, and armed terrorists including isis, and nazis in Ukraine. Sort yourself out Bernie and learn some truth.
