The reign of “The Meg” has come to an end. There is a new top film at the box office – “Crazy Rich Asians.”
The romantic comedy, featuring nearly an all Asian-American cast, captured 34 million on its way to this weekend’s no. 1 film at the box office. Supported by an impressive 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is the story of boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, girl goes with boy to his home and finds that he’s insanely wealthy.
While it may no longer be no. 1, “The Meg” still managed to scare up an impressive $21 million, enough for second place. Mark Wahlberg’s latest film, the action flick “Mile 22” grabbed the third spot in its opening weekend with $13.6 million.
However, the big question remains: Does “Crazy Rich Asians” have enough fire power to hold off next week’s challenger, the R-rated Melissa McCarthy comedy”Happytime Murders?” My guess: without a doubt.
