Portland Rose Parade Shut Down After “Antifascists” Threaten Republican Marchers
The assault against conservative free speech is at it again – this time in Portland, Oregon. After an “antifascist” group learned that the Multnomah County Republican Party was set to march in the 10th annual Rose Festival parade, they sent a threatening e-mail to parade organizers that pledged to protest and interrupt the parade this coming weekend.
“You have seen how much power we have downtown and that the police cannot stop us from shutting down roads so please consider your decision wisely.” The e-mail went on to say that unless the parade organizers canceled the Republican’s spot in the parade, that the protest could get violent and 200 people would “rush into the parade” and “drag and push” those marching with the Republican Party. “This is non-negotiable” and “We will not give one inch to groups who espouse hatred toward LGBT, immigrants, people of color or others,” it said.
So what did the parade organizers do? Why, they gave in to the bullies and canceled a decade old tradition, citing safety concerns for the citizens of Portland. So much for taking a stand for free speech and expression.
This is just the latest in a string of canceled events where protesters threatened violence over politics they don’t agree with. Each time free speech and expression is shut down, Constitutional rights are violated. It’s time to grow a spine and start standing up for freedom and if that means bringing in the police or the National Guard to keep peace, so be it.
